Blenheim Palace England

Blenheim Palace was built in the early 18th Century to celebrate the victory over the French in the War of the Spanish Succession.

This palace was built in 1705 – 1722 by Sir John Vanbrugh and Nicholas Hawksmoor.  It is now Unesco World Heritage site, and the home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough.    Inside is the Great Hall, Saloon, state rooms. Long Library, Churchill Exhibition.

Blenheim Palace was built as a gift to the 1st Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill, the military commander who led the Allied forces in the Battle of Blenheim on August 13, 1704.

To honor the Duke , Queen Anne granted his family the ruined Royal Manor and park at Woodstock, along with the promise of funds needed to build a house to mark the victorious occasion.    In return, the Duke also ensured that the Palace became a monument to the Queen.

There is a Column of Victory that was built in the Northern part of the Park it stands 134 feet high, on top of the column is a lead statue of the 1st Duke of Marlborough and shows him to be dressed as a Roman general.

Sir Winston Churchill was born at the Blenheim Palace on November 30, 1874.
